FYI, I did just successfully use the Pegasus ability (which is exactly the same as Taurus) on this table:

Same situation, don't see any real difference, but here it did work.
This is not a Grand Star, so I would expect this to not violate the Taurus condition of marking only Common stars.
But if you look at it very technical, the Starting star is of course a little more special than a basic Common star.
Checked the rules again, but I can't say for sure if in this case a player should get its stardust from Taurus or not. Maybe you can check with the designer to get a final ruling on this?
