Turns 302 and 319 are identical except that my opponent had one card less. He had to use it to get out of position 302. If he had had another identical card, he would have been able to reproduce the same escape, but I would not have been able to go back to that position because of the current stale game rule.

Rapportgeschiedenis
I don't remember exactly the full reasons, but I remember discussing it with Quentin when we designed the feature.
The rule was designed to force the currently winning player to not block the game by repeating the same moves endlessly while the loosing player try to protect their position.
The winning player interest is to give up on the attack to avoid the draw. While the loosing player can be interested in blocking to get a draw instead of a loss.
